Help the MC-1 Foundation Assist Aurora Police Officer Mark Moore Recover After a Life-Changing Line-of-Duty Injury

For more than two decades, Aurora Police Officer Mark Moore has dedicated his life to protecting others.

His journey in public service began in 2002 as an Animal Control Officer with the City of Aurora. Through hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to his community, he advanced into a leadership role before pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. After graduating from the Aurora Police Academy in 2012, he proudly served the citizens of Aurora as a patrol officer, later becoming a Field Training Officer responsible for mentoring the next generation of law enforcement officers.

His passion for serving led him to the Aurora Police K-9 Unit. Despite suffering a serious wrist injury while arresting a suspect—and enduring multiple surgeries—he refused to give up on his dream of becoming a K-9 handler. In 2018, that dream became a reality when he was partnered with K-9 Cyrus.

Together, they answered countless calls for service, protected their community, and assisted law enforcement agencies across Colorado, including providing explosive detection security at the X Games. They were always ready to respond whenever they were needed.

Then, on April 9, 2026, everything changed.

While responding to a high-risk call involving an armed suspect, Officer Moore and K-9 Cyrus were the first to arrive on scene. As officers developed a plan to safely contain the suspect, the suspect suddenly burst from the apartment without warning.

Without hesitation, Officer Moore deployed K-9 Cyrus to protect fellow officers and stop the fleeing suspect. During the confrontation, Cyrus was stabbed while courageously doing exactly what he had been trained to do—protect others.

Moments later, the suspect violently attacked Officer Moore, stabbing him twice in the head before he was able to defend himself.

His next memory was waking up in an ambulance.

The days and months that followed have been filled with multiple surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, physical therapy, and countless challenges. Recovery has been long, painful, and uncertain, but Officer Moore’s determination has never wavered.

Like so many first responders, he answered the call without hesitation, placing himself in harm's way to protect complete strangers.
On that day, he paid an unimaginable price.

Today, he faces a different battle—the long road toward healing,rebuilding his life, and returning to serve and protect the citizens of Aurora.
